Brantley Funeral Home in Braddock....afternoon....

At Brantley Funeral Home in Braddock, the funeral of Karen Myers is underway, as the congregation listens to the minister speak about Karen.  Casey sits on the front row of the chapel, next to Allison and her former husband, Mike Morgan, as they listen to the minister.  But although Casey is listening, he isn't really hearing the minister's words, as the boy is staring blankly ahead at his mother's casket, almost as if in a daze.  Allison looks over at her nephew, then reaches over and takes Casey's hand, wondering how they will get through the rest of this day and the days ahead.

Meanwhile, in the very back of the chapel, sitting alone on the last row, is a woman dressed all in black, and wearing a black veil.  Looking through the crowd of heads in front of her, Kimberly Cryder, the veiled woman, is watching her grandson Casey as the minister continues to speak.....

Meanwhile....Bryan, Texas....

A long funeral procession, led by a white hearse, makes its way down a street in the city of Bryan, Texas, as Ben

Murray is being taken to his final resting place.  After a long drive, the hearse turns into Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Bryan.  The hearse comes to a stop near a tent erected over the open grave.  Behind the hearse, a line of cars come to a stop, and mourners exit their vehicles, then make their way over to the grave site.  Six young men serving as pallbearers, including Conner, Dylan, and Charley, a young ranch hand on Ray's ranch, as well as three boys who were Ben's friends from high school, take their places behind the hearse.  As Ben's casket is slowly removed from

the hearse, the six young pallbearers take hold of the casket and carry it to its resting place atop the bier at the gravesite.  Among the many mourners looking on are Courtney, Christopher, Andrew, Gavin, Phyllis, Jenna, Ray,

Donna, Bobby, Ann, Lucy, John Ross, Krystina, Alex, Bridget, Sue Ellen, Catlin, Lucas, Heather, Michael, Ashley, and Joseph Gioberti, as well as many teenagers Ben had gone to school with, former teachers, and Andrew's brother and his family.  Each mourner listens as the minister begins:  "This is a passage of scripture used often at sad occasions such as this.  When I spoke to Ben's father, Andrew, he asked me to read the Twenty-Third Psalm, the same scripture that I read at Ben's mother's funeral five years ago.  'The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.  He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.  He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.  Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.  Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.  Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.'  I'd also like to share with you this poem, which I hope will bring you all some measure of comfort during this difficult time.  The poem is called My Journey.  'Do not think of me as gone away.  My Journey has just begun.  Life holds so many facets.  This earth is only one.  Just think of me as resting from the sorrows and the tears.  In a place of warmth and comfort, where there are no days and no years.

Think of how I am wishing that you could know on that day, How nothing but your sadness could ever go away.

I hope that I am still living in the hearts of those I touched.  For nothing loved is ever lost.  And I loved you all so very much.'  My hope is  that each of Ben's family and friends will find comfort in these words, and seek comfort in the Lord."

As Ben's service comes to an end, Christopher reaches over and takes Courtney by the hand.  Jenna also takes Andrew's hand in an attempt to comfort the grieving father.

As the crowd slowly begins to disperse and mourners are filing past Ben's family, shaking hands, giving hugs, and offering their condolences, Shawn is about to head to his car parked nearby, when his cell phone begins to vibrate in his pocket.  He takes the phone out and looks at it, then answers as he walks away from the crowd.  "Hey, Clay, what's up?"

Clay's office in Dallas....

"Hi, Shawn, sorry if I'm interrupting anything,"  Clay says.

"No, not at all,"  Shawn replies.  "Perfect timing, in fact.  What can I do for you?"

"I've been doing a lot of thinking since our talk the other night, and I've come to a decision.  I've decided to take you up on your offer.  I'd love to join forces with you.  I think maybe the two of us could turn this town on its head."

Mt. Calvary Cemetery....

Back at the cemetery, Shawn smiles upon hearing that Clay has decided to team up with him.

Southfork....one month later....

While John Ross is getting dressed in his and Krystina's bedroom, Krystina walks in from the bathroom.  "Are you free for lunch today?"  Krystina asks.

"Sure am,"  John Ross replies.  "Why ya ask?"

"Well, Little John and Ellie have an appointment with their pediatrician at 11:30 for checkups, and I was thinking, after we're done, we could swing by the office and you could take your wife and children to lunch."

"I would love that."

Krystina smiles.  "Great.  I'll just call you when we're finished at the doctor's."

"Sounds good."

Krystina walks over to him.  "John Ross, is something bothering you?  You've been in kind of a strange mood for the last couple of days.  Is everything alright at the office?"

"Yeah, everything's fine at the office,"  John Ross says.

"Then what is it?"  Krystina asks.

"Darlin', NOTHIN' is botherin' me,"  John Ross says.  "Everything's fine.  Really."

"John Ross, your mood wouldn't happen to have anything to do with your birthday coming up on Saturday, would it?"

"Now why on Earth would my birthday have anything to do with my bein' in any kind of mood?"

"I don't know, but when I brought your birthday up the other night, you were real quick to change the subject,"  says Krystina.   "That's it, isn't it?  Your birthday coming up is bothering you."

"Krystina, I've had birthdays before.  Why should this one be any different?"

"Because you're turning 40?"

John Ross sighs deeply as he turns away from his wife and looks at himself in the mirror, straightening his tie.

"John Ross, come on,"  Krystina says.  "So what?  You're turning 40.  It's not like you're old or anything."

"40 sure as hell itn't that young,"  says John Ross.

"John Ross, you are the sexiest 40-year-old man I know.  And you don't look a day over 30."

John Ross sighs again.  "I may not look it, but I sure am beginnin' to feel it.  The other mornin', when I started to get out of bed, I had a really horrible leg cramp.  Like a muscle spasm or somethin'.  That never happened to me before.  And look at this, Krystina."  John Ross turns to face her and touches his stomach.  "I'm startin' to get a little bit of a gut on me."

"No, you're not.  John Ross, you look fine.  Better than fine.

"You're just sayin' that cause you're my wife."

"That's not true,"  Krystina says.  "John Ross, you are as handsome and sexy as ever.  And your stamina in bed is like that of a 20-year-old, so you have NOTHING to worry about.  Age is just a number."

"A number, huh?  Yeah, well, I still like to think of myself as a young buck, Krystina, but then, when I remember that this comin' Saturday I'll hit the big 4-0, I'm reminded that I'm approaching middle age and I actually have a grown ass son in college, and that Alex could very well make me a grandfather soon, then, I start feelin' every one of those 40 years.  So, look, darlin', let's just not mention my birthday anymore, okay?  Let's just try and forget about it, and let that day pass just like any other."

"You really wanna just forget about your birthday?"  Krystina asks.

"Yes, I do.  Come on.  Let's get down to breakfast," John Ross says.  He kisses her, then puts on his jacket and leaves the bedroom.

Krystina shakes her head.  Somehow, she thinks to herself, she has to find a way to get John Ross out of this melancholy mood over his 40th birthday.

Sue Ellen and Catlin's home....

Sue Ellen's maid, Hallie, pours her a cup of coffee as she and Catlin are having breakfast in their dining room that morning.  "Thank you, Hallie,"  Sue Ellen says.

"You're welcome, Mrs. Ewing.  "Mr. Ewing, more coffee?"

"Oh, no thank you, Hallie, I'm fine,"  replies Catlin.

The maid smiles, then walks into the kitchen.

"Boy, I have to hurry and get going,"  Catlin says.

"So early?  What's the rush?"  Sue Ellen asks.

"I have a meeting at 9 a.m. sharp in my office."

"You still have plenty of time.  So, what's the meeting?  Anything you can share with your wife, or is it some secret deal Catlin Oil is working on?"

"No secret at all.  Actually, I'm meeting with Eric and Donna Love, and Donna's attorney."

Sue Ellen takes a sip of her coffee, then looks at her husband.  "Donna Love?"

"Yes,"  Catlin replies.  "Eric and Donna are gonna be finalizing the sale of Love International to Donna this morning, and they both asked me to be a witness.  And, since I'm going to be serving as Donna's business adviser, it only seemed appropriate."

"Out of all the people in Dallas, including the many PROFESSIONAL business advisers in this city, I still don't see why that woman had to pick YOU to be her adviser," Sue Ellen says,a tone of bitterness in her voice.

"Sue Ellen, we've been over this and over it.  Donna wanted someone she knows and trusts.  But, if you are uncomfortable with this and don't want me to do it, then...."

"Oh, no no,"  Sue Ellen says.  "I would dream of having you back out."

"Honey, look, you have nothing to worry about as far as Donna is concerned,"  Catlin says.  "What do I have to do to help you get over this jealousy you have toward Donna Love?"

"Advise her to move Love International BACK to San Francisco, or, maybe to Bay City."

"Sue Ellen, like I said, you have nothing to worry about.  Don't you trust me, even after all this time?"

"My darling,I trust you implicitly.  It's Donna Love that I don't trust.  But enough about her.  I wanted to ask you something."

"Ask away,"  says Catlin.

"This Saturday is John Ross's 40th birthday, so, I was thinking about either having he and Krystina over here for dinner, or maybe we could take them out and treat them to dinner."

Catlin smiles.  "I think that's a great idea.  Wow.  I can hardly believe that you, my beautiful and youthful wife is the mother of a 40-year-old,"  he says, leaning over to kiss her.

"It's hard for me to believe, too,"  says Sue Ellen.  "It only seems like yesterday that I found out that I was pregnant.  I'll never forget the day the doctor phoned me with the news."

"That must have truly been the happiest day of your life after all those years of wanting to have a baby,"  Catlin says.  "You and J.R. had been married how long?"

"Seven years,"  replies Sue Ellen.

Catlin looks at his watch.  "Well, sweetheart, listen, you get together with John Ross and Krystina and find out whether they'd prefer to go out to dinner, or have a quiet family dinner here at the house.  Either is fine with me, but I really do have to get going."  He stands from his seat.

"Well, umm, be sure and give Donna my love.....no pun intended."

"You really mean that?"

"Not at all."

Catlin smiles.  He kisses his wife.  "I'll see you this evening,"  he says, then leaves.

After Catlin has left, A sad look comes over Sue Ellen's face, and her mind once again travels back in time as she thinks about a scene between herself and J.R. shortly after he learned that she was pregnant....

As Sue Ellen's mind returns to the present, she wipes a tear from her face.

Catlin Oil....a short time later....

Catlin steps off the elevator just outside of Catlin Oil a short while later, then walks in, entering his secretary's office.  "Good morning, Mr. Ewing,"  the secretary says.

"Morning."

"Eric, Donna Love, and Ms. Love's attorney are waiting for you in your office."

"Okay, thanks, Marie.  Hold my calls until this meeting is over."

"Yes, sir,"  Marie says.

Catlin walks into his office, where Eric, Donna Love, and another man are waiting.  "Morning, Eric.  Hello, Donna."

"Catlin, good morning,"  Donna Love says cheerfully.  "I'm sure you remember my attorney and old friend....."

"Cass Winthrop,"  Catlin says, looking at the attorney.  "Well, well."

"Hello, Catlin,"  Cass says with a smile.  "It's been a long time."

"Yes, it certainly has,"  Catlin says, shaking his hand.  "And you haven't changed a bit."

"Well, neither have you.  Marriage certainly seems to agree with you."

"Yes, it really does.  I'm very surprised that with all the fine attorneys here in Dallas, Donna, why didn't you just retain one of them for this routine signing of a contract to buy Love International from Eric instead of having Cass fly here all the way from Bay City?"

"Well, actually, I had to be in Dallas this week anyway because I'm consulting on another case here."

"And when I heard that Cass was going to be in Dallas, I asked that we finalize the sale of Love International to me this week so he could be here to represent me,"  says Donna.

"Oh, I see, well, that makes sense."

"Now, we're just waiting for MY attorney to arrive,"  Eric says as Catlin's secretary buzzes his desk.

"Yes, Marie?"  Catlin says.

"Mr. Ewing, Jay Smithfield is here."

"Oh, thank you, send him in.  Well, right on time."

A second later, Jay walks into the office.  "Catlin, Eric, sorry I'm a couple of minutes late, but there was an accident on the Expressway that held traffic up."

"Oh, no, you're right on time, Jay,"  Catlin says, shaking the attorney's hand.

"Jay, I don't believe you've ever met Donna Love, my aunt,"  says Eric.  "Or rather, she USE to be my aunt."

"Ms. Love, it's a pleasure."

"The pleasure's all mine, Mr. Smithfield,"  Donna Love says.  "I've heard quite a lot about you."

"Well, thank you."

"And I'm Cass Winthrop, Donna's attorney,"  Cass says.

"Mr. Winthrop, I know you by reputation.  It's nice to finally meet you,"  Jay says, shaking hands with the older attorney.

"Well, then, shall we get started?"  Catlin asks.

"Yes, of course," Cass says.

"I've drawn up the contract for the outright sale of Love International by Mr, Eric Love to his aunt, Donna Love,"  Jay says as he opens his brief case and takes out the contract.  "It's a pretty straight forward, standard contract."  Jay hands the document to Cass, who takes it and looks it over.

"I'm just anxious to get this over with,"  says Eric.

"If you don't mind me asking, Eric, what made you come to the decision to sell the company your father left you?"  Cass asks.

Eric and Catlin exchange looks.  "Because I wanted to be rid of anything that ties me to Peter Love,"  Eric replies.

"Well, Eric, I think I can understand how you feel,"  says Cass.  "I am aware that Brittany Peterson was your mother, so your anger toward your father is natural under the circumstances."

"Mr. Winthrop, there's something that you don't know, and that you probably SHOULD know.  One of the main reasons I'm going through with this sale, and why I want to distance myself from anything to do with Peter.  The truth is, Peter Love was not my father."

"Oh, really?"

"That's right, Cass,"  says Catlin.   "I'm Eric's father.  The circumstances behind this are very complicated, but, we just found out about this last year, and a DNA test confirmed that Eric is my son."

"I see.  Well, then, I understand.  This contract appears to be in order, so, Donna, you look over the terms, and if you agree, then we can sign, and Love International will be yours."

Donna takes the contract and begins to skim over it.  "Everything looks fine."

"So are we ready to sign?"  Jay asks.

"Yes,"  Donna Love replies.

"Let's do this,"  says Eric.  Both he and Donna are given copies of the contract, and each sign them.  Afterward, Catlin signs as a witness.

"Alright, then,"  says Cass.  "Congratulations, Donna, you are now the sole owner of Love International."

Donna smiles.  "Thank you.  And Eric, thank you for offering me first option to buy Peter's company."

"You're welcome, Aunt Donna.  I wouldn't want anyone else to have the company but you.  This way, it stays in the Love family."

"And Catlin, I wanna thank you for agreeing to help me re-learn the business world,"  Donna says.  "I'm sure I'll be calling on you quite often."

"Donna, I'll do all I can,"  Catlin says.  "And Cass, how long are you gonna be in Dallas?  If you're gonna be here for a couple days, we should get together and have dinner.  Talk over old days and catch up.  And I'd love for you to meet my wife, Sue Ellen."

"Thank you, Catlin, I'd enjoy that very much, and I'll take you up on that."  Cass reaches into his pocket and pulls out a card, handing it to Catlin.  "Here's my business card with my cell number on it.  I'll be in Dallas at least a couple days, possibly a lot longer.  As I said I'm here to consult on a case."

"Good.  I'll give you a call in the next couple of days, then."

Cass smiles.  "Fine.  I'll see you all later."

"Cass, wait, I'll walk out with you,"  says Donna.  "I have some other things I'd like to discuss with you."

"Alright, Donna.  Catlin, it's been great seeing you again after all these years."

"You too, Cass,"  Catlin says, shaking hands with the attorney.  Cass and Donna leave the office together.  Once they're gone, Catlin turns to Eric.  "Well, now that Love International is off your hands, have you given any thought to what you're gonna be doing?"

"No, not really."

"Well, I have an offer for you, then.  How about joining C.J. and I here at Catlin Oil?"

Eric looks at him.  "You......you want me to come to work at Catlin Oil?"

"Sure, why not?  We can certainly use your business experience here.  And I would truly LOVE to work with both of my sons."

"Why not, you ask?  I can think of a few, and C.J. would be right at the top of that list.  I'll bet he'd just love to have me here."

"Are things not any better between the two of you?"  Catlin asks.  "I'd hoped you and your brother would've worked out your differences before now."

"Well, whatever differences we have are all on HIS part, not mine,"  says Eric.  "I have no problem with him, but, he definitely has a problem with me, and I can't say as I blame him.  All his life, C.J. has been your only son, and then all of a sudden, I come along, and as you and I have gotten closer, I think C.J. is feeling pushed aside."

"That's ridiculous."

"Maybe you should tell HIM that,"  Eric says.  "Anyway, I have some other things I have to take care of this morning, so, I'll see you later."

"Yeah, see you later, and Eric.......please consider my offer.  I know you have enough money now, especially after selling Love International to live comfortably for the rest of your life without having to work, but do you really wanna do that?  You'd be bored to tears.  So think about coming on board here."

"I'll think about it,"  Eric says.  He flashes his father a smile, then leaves the office.

Braddock Elementary School....

Michael is out of the boys' at Braddock Elementary School late in the morning with other students, between classes, when another boy approaches him.  "Michael,"  the boy says.

"Oh, hey Noah."

"Congratulations.  I heard your song Beautiful is at number 10 on the pop charts."

Michael smiles.  "Thanks.  Yeah, it's been doin' real good so far.  I just hope it gets to number one."

"Hey, man, did you hear?"  Noah asks.  "Casey Myers came back to school today."

"Really?"

"Yeah, He got here late, though.  I saw him come in with some lady, I guess she was his aunt.  My mom said that Casey's aunt has been taking care of him since his mom died."

"Speak of the devil,"  Michael says, looking past Noah.  Noah turns around and sees Casey and two of his friends walking toward them down the hall.

"Oh, boy,"  Noah says. "I wonder if he's still the same jerk he always was."

Before Michael can reply, Casey and the other two boys approach them and start to walk past.  Casey stops in front of Michael and Noah.  He and Michael look at each other as they stand face to face.

"Casey,"  Michael says.  "Umm, I'm real sorry to hear about your mom."

"Yeah, thanks,"  Casey says in a low tone.

Michael looks at him for a second, then he and Noah walk away from Casey and his friends.

"Hey, Ewing,"  Casey says.

Michael stops, pauses, then turns around to face Casey again.  "Yeah?"

"How's your cousin?"

Michael looks at the other boy, surprised by Casey's concern.  "He's doing okay.  He should be back at school soon."

"Oh, cool,"  Casey says, then turns and walks away as Michael and Noah watch.

"Was that really Casey Myers?"  Michael asks.

"Yeah, that's what I wanna know,"  says Noah.  "The guy seemed almost human just then."

"Maybe losing his mom made him change,"  Michael says.  "I actually kinda feel sorry for the guy."

"Yeah, me, too.  Poor dude's lost both his parents."

"What?"  Michael asks.  "You mean, Casey's dad is  dead, too?"

"Yeah.  I heard his dad died when Casey was real young."

Michael sighs.  "Oh, wow.  No wonder Casey is the way he is."

Dallas Police Station....late afternoon....

Katherine Wentworth is being led down a hallway at the Dallas Police Department that afternoon by a female deputy.  At the end of the hall, they walk into a visitation room, where attorney Cass Winthrop is waiting.

"Ms. Wentworth,"  Cass says.  "I'm Cass Winthrop."

"Mr. Winthrop, you're the attorney that George Harper recommended,"  Katherine says.

"That's right.  I'm here to talk to you about your case, and, if I decide to take on your case, we're gonna have to plan a defense.  So, why don't we sit down and talk about your case?"

"Alright,"  Katherine says.  She sits down at the table in the middle of the room.  Cass takes a seat across from her.

"Now then,"  Cass says.  "You're being charged with two counts of murder, and one count of conspiracy to commit murder in the deaths of Renaldo Marchetta, and Veronica Robinson.  And you've pleaded not guilty to those charges.  Now what the prosecution has as evidence against you is a letter written by convicted murderer and professional hitman, Andre Shuman, to his brother, CONFESSING that he had been paid by you to kill Marchetta, and then Robinson, when she was on her way to Dallas to testify in the trial of Jenna Wade back in 1985."

"Mr. Winthrop, the charges against me are ludicrous,"  Katherine says.

"Ms. Wentworth, whether or not you are guilty of these charges, is irrelevant to me,"  says Cass.  "My job is to defend you to the best of  my ability and see that you get acquitted.  I've done some research into your case.  These events all happened decades ago, and neither Renaldo Marchetta or Veronica Robinson were exactly upstanding citizens. Marchetta was a con man and Ms. Robinson was a cocaine addict.  As for these newer charges against you, I think that's where we have our work cut out for us.  The attack on and attempted murder of Ann Ewing.  Why don't we talk about that?  Tell me the circumstances that led up to the confrontation between you and Mrs. Ewing.  Was there any provocation on Ann Ewing's part?"

"Provocation?"  Katherine asks, looking at the attorney.  "Oh, yes.  There was DEFINITELY provocation from that witch."

Pamela's apartment....that evening....

Pamela pours two cups of coffee in her living room, and hands one to Afton.  "Thank you, sweetheart,"  Afton says.

"You're welcome, Mom.  Thank YOU for coming over and helping me with these wedding plans."

Afton smiles.  "I'm very happy to do it, sweetheart."

"I'm not sure that we're gonna be ready for this wedding on Saturday."

"Of course you will, especially since you're only going to be having a small wedding at Justin's house.   Speaking of which, after you're married, what will Justin be doing with his ranch?  Will the two of you be living there, or here in your apartment?"

"Justin and I have talked about it, and, we're gonna live here until we find a new place of our own,"  Pamela replies.  "We thought about the ranch, but, Justin bought the ranch for himself and Amanda when they were married, and, he as a lot of memories there.  So, after the wedding, we're gonna be looking for a place of our own."

"Well, that's wonderful,"  Afton says.  "And, I think it's a great idea, starting off fresh, with no memories, no baggage,  That way, you can build your own memories."

Pamela looks at her mother and smiles.  "Mom, you are happy for me, aren't you?  I mean REALLY happy?"

"Sweetheart, of course, I am.  Justin is a wonderful young man, and I can see that he makes you very happy."

"He does, Mom,"  Pamela says.  "I only wish that Dad could be happy for me."

Afton reaches over and touches her daughter's hand.  "Pamela, your father is a stubborn man, but he'll come around."

"He said that he isn't going to be at the wedding."

"I know.  And, I'm not saying he's right, but, can you really blame him?  Honey, after all, the Ewings have done some pretty terrible things to your father."

"I know that.  But Justin has never done anything to him."

"Justin is J.R.'s son, and John Ross's brother, not to mention Bobby's nephew.  Pamela, your father loves you with all of his heart, and he's only afraid of seeing you get hurt again."

"Justin is NOT going to hurt me,"  Pamela says as Justin walks into the apartment.

"Hey, what's goin' on?"  He asks.  "I hear my name?"

Pamela stands from her seat on the sofa and walks over to him.  "Yes, you did.  I was just telling Mom how happy you make me, and, contrary to what my father thinks, you are not going to hurt me."

Justin puts his arms around her and smiles.  "You got that right,"  he says, then kisses her.  "So what are y'all doin'?"

"Just last minute arrangements for the wedding."

"Oh, good.  You two are sure makin' a lot of arrangements for a small weddin'."

"Well, I want my daughter's day to be perfect,"  says Afton.

"And so do I,"  Pamela says.  "After all, I plan for this to be the LAST time I walk down the isle, so I want everything about Saturday to be perfect."

"And it WILL be, sweetheart,"  Justin says.  "So stop worryin',"  Justin says.

"Can't help it.  We've both had such rotten luck in the department of love."

"But not this time.  This time, it's gonna be perfect, and it's gonna be for life,"  Justin says, then kisses her.

Afton clears her throat as she stands from her seat on the sofa.  "Well, I think that's my cue to make myself scarce."

"Afton, you don't have to go,"  Justin says.

"Well, it's getting late, and I have a man coming by Afton's Lounge first thing tomorrow morning to give me an estimate on a new freezer, so I have to get some sleep."

"Mom, thank you for coming over and helping me with this,"  Pamela says.

"You're very welcome, darling.  And don't worry.  This wedding is going to be amazing, even if it is small."

"I just hope that Daddy decides to show up, and give me away."

"I'll definitely work on getting him there,"  Afton says.  "But, Pammy, I wouldn't count on him giving you away.  I'll call you tomorrow.  Goodnight, Justin."

"Night, Afton."

"Goodnight, Mom,"  Pamela says as Afton leaves.  Pamela closes the door behind her mother.

"Have you talked to Cliff?"  Justin asks.

"Not in the last couple of days."

"And he's still threatenin' to boycott our wedding?"

"Yes,"  Pamela replies with a sigh.

Justin puts his arms around her.  "Hey, don't worry.  I'm sure Afton will be able to convince him to come."

"I hope so.  I wouldn't feel right getting married without my father there, especially now that we've gotten close after all the craziness of the past."

Justin looks at her and smiles.  "Hey, I have an idea.  I happen to know that old Bette Davis movie you like so much, Now, Voyager, is on TV at 10, so, why don't I go and get a quick shower, you make some popcorn, and we go curl up in bed and watch it?"

"Now, Voyager is my favorite movie,"  says Pamela.  "And I can't think of any better way to spend an evening."

Justin kisses her.  "I'll be out in fifteen minutes,"  he says.  He smiles at her, then heads down the hall to the bedroom.

Southfork....the next morning....

Jacob is sitting up in bed in the downstairs guest room at Southfork the next morning, finishing his breakfast when

Michael walks into the room.  "Hey,"  he says.  "Can I come in?"

"Sure,"  replies Jacob.  "You about to leave for school?"

"Yeah, in a few minutes.  I'll sure be glad when you can come back to school.  And move back up to our room.  It's kinda lonely up there at night with nobody to talk to."

"Yeah, it kinda sucks down here by myself, too.  Hopefully, I'll be able to climb the stairs soon and move back up.  And, as soon as the doctor gives me the okay, I'll be back at school."

"I sure hope so,"  Michael says.  "Dude, you're gonna think this is crazy, but Casey Myers came back to school yesterday, and he actually asked me how you were doing."

"Seriously?"  Jacob  asks.

"Yeah, I couldn't believe it.  Casey's like a different person now.  Not mean like he used to be."

Jacob sighs.  "I guess losing his Mom changed him."

"Yeah I guess so.  I actually kinda felt sorry for him.  Must have been horrible for him.  His Dad's dead, too."

"Really?"  Jacob asks.  "Wow.  Maybe that's why he was so mean all the time.  Y'know, it's kinda weird knowing that Casey Myers's Mom died in the same accident as Ben.  And that I'm only alive because that accident happened."

"Yeah.  I know."

"You went to Ben's funeral, right?"

"Yeah, I did.  Why?"  Michael asks.

"How was it?"

"It was REALLY sad."

"Sure wish I could've gone,"  Jacob says.  "Ben was my uncle, and, I didn't even get a chance to know him that good.  And now, I have his heart inside of me."

As Michael is about to say something, a knock sounds at the door, and Courtney walks in.  "Jacob, sweety, how's your breakfast?"

"It's okay,"  the boy replies.

Courtney looks at her son's tray, with his half eaten breakfast.  "But, you didn't eat much."

"Just not that hungry."

"Michael,I think your Mom is almost ready to take you to school, so, why don't you go get your things?"  Courtney says.

"Sure," says Michael.  "Jacob, I'll see you after school.  Maybe we can play a game or something when I get home."

"Yeah, okay,"  Jacob says, and Michael leaves the room.

Courtney takes a seat at the foot of the bed.  "Are you okay?"

"I'm fine."

"Honey, look, I know that this has been a hard time for you.  And, I know you must be bored out of your mind.  There's nothing more boring than the long recovery period after a major surgery, especially when you're a kid and you wanna be out there running and playing with your friends.  But it won't be much longer, and you'll be back on your feet and doing all the things you use to do."

Jacob nods, then lowers his head.

"Jacob, baby, what's wrong?  What's bothering you?"  Courtney asks.

"I miss Ben,"  Jacob replies.  "I had just gotten to know him.  And I really liked him, and now he's gone."

"I know.  I know, it's hard."

"It feels weird, knowing that I have his heart.  It's kinda like he's still with me."

Courtney looks at him and smiles as she fights back tears.  "And he always will be.  Ben will be with all of us.  Hey, how about you and I getting out of the house for a while today?  The doctor said walking is good for you, so, we could take a little walk outside.  It's a nice, warm, spring day."

"Sure,"  Jacob says.  "I really hope when I go back to the doctor next week he'll tell me I can go back to school."

"I hope so.  Well, you get some rest, and we'll take that walk after lunch.  In the meantime, is there anything you need?  Anything I can bring you?"

"Nah I'm okay,"  the boy replies.

Courtney smiles.  "I'll get this out of your way,"  she says, picking up his breakfast tray.  "You get some rest."  Courtney flashes her son another smile, then leaves the room, closing the door on her way out.

Jacob lets out a deep sigh.  "Rest?  That's all I've been doing for over a month is resting,"  he says.

Shawn's apartment....

Shawn comes out of his bedroom, picks his car keys up from the coffee table in his living room, and as he presses the button for the elevator just outside his apartment, he is surprised when the elevator door opens and Jeremy Wendell's henchman, Kenneth, is standing in the elevator.  "Kenneth, what the hell are you doing here?"  Asks an annoyed Shawn.  "I was just on my way out to head to the office."

"Well, you're gonna be just a little late this morning, Shawny boy,"  Kenneth says.

"What are  you talking about?"

"Your grandfather wants to see you.  Now."

"What?  Right NOW?  I have a busy day ahead of me and I don't have time to visit my grandfather this morning."

"Well, you're gonna have to make time,"  Kenneth.  "Jeremy insists, so you're coming with me."

Realizing he has no choice, Shawn sighs in frustration, then gets onto the elevator with Kenneth.

Jeremy Wendell's apartment.....fifteen minutes later

The elevator opens into Jeremy's apartment, and Shawn and Kenneth step off.  The two proceed down a hallway until they come to the door of Jeremy's office.  Kenneth knocks.  "Come in,"  they hear Jeremy say from inside.

Kenneth and Shawn walk into the office, where they find Jeremy standing in front of the fireplace, his back to them.  "We're here, boss,"  Kenneth says.

"Excellent,"  Jeremy says, turning around to face them.  "Shawn, come in.  Kenneth, you leave us alone."

"Yes, sir.  I'll be right outside."  Kenneth turns and walks out of the room, closing the door behind him.

"Jeremy, what's this all about?"  Shawn asks.  "I don't like being summoned at 8:30 in the morning when I was on my way to the office."

"And I don't like having my orders disobeyed,"  Jeremy says.

"What are you talking about?"  Shawn asks.

"You brought Clay Beaumont into Westar without talking about it with me first, and that creates a major problem, Shawn."

"Clay Beaumont will be a huge asset to Westar.  He has a lot to bring to the table."

"You damned fool,"  says an angry Jeremy.  "Clay Beaumont is a EWING, and the Ewings are our enemies.  Clay is J.R.'s grandson."

"Clay might technically have Ewing blood, but he's nothing like them.  In fact, he can't stand the Ewings.  They've treated him like an outcast ever since he set foot in Dallas, so he's just as anxious to get back at them as you are."

"Perhaps this was a mistake, letting you take over at Westar,"  Jeremy says.  "It's obvious to me that you're too young, inexperienced, impulsive, and  foolish for this job."

"I am NOT,"  Shawn insists.  "Look, I will NOT let you down.  Besides, if Clay Beaumont isn't to be trusted, then isn't it better to have him on our side?  Or at least have him close, so I can keep an eye on him?"

"Shawn, you truly have a lot to learn."

"And I'm learning, Grandfather.  You just have to trust me.  I know what I'm doing."

"Trust you?"  Jeremy asks.  "I don't trust ANYONE.  I let my guard down with that brother of yours, and he betrayed me.  I don't intend to let that happen again."

"It WON'T happen.  I am nothing like Tripp.  I won't let you down."

"Well, I certainly hope you don't turn out to be anything like Tripp.  Shawn, I'm going to give you one more chance.  But from now on you will follow my orders.  For now, Clay Beaumont can remain at Westar, but keep a close eye on him.  Perhaps he can be useful.  But if he causes any problems at all, then I'll place the blame on you, and you'll be out of Westar so fast it'll make your head spin.  And then I'll make sure that you will never have a future in business in this town, or any other town in Texas, grandson or not.  Do I make myself clear?"

Shawn angrily looks at Jeremy and remains silent.

"I said, do I make myself clear?"  Jeremy asks, annoyed by his grandson's silence.

"Perfectly clear,"  Shawn replies, barely able to contain his anger.

"Fine."  Jeremy walks over to his desk and presses a button.

A moment later, Kenneth walks into the  room.

"Kenneth, take my grandson back,"  Jeremy says.

"Gladly,"  Kenneth says.  He then proceeds to blindfold Shawn.

"Oh, come on,"  Shawn says.  "When are you ever gonna trust me enough to stop with this damn blindfold every time I come here?"

"When you prove to me that you can be trusted implicitly,"  Jeremy replies.  "And also, for the time being, Kenneth will be remaining at your side at Westar to keep an eye on young Clay Beaumont........and on you, as well."

"You got it, boss,"  Kenneth says as he handcuffs Shawn's hands. .  "Okay, sport, let's go."  He leads Shawn out of the room.

After the two leave, Jeremy pours himself a drink, then takes a seat at his desk.

A park in Dallas....early afternoon....

At lunchtime early that afternoon, Justin and Jimmy are jogging together in a park in Dallas, enjoying the nice early

spring weather.  "Y'know, for a guy who's about to marry the love of his life in a couple days, you're awfully quiet today, and you don't know seem real excited,"  Jimmy says.  "Anything you wanna talk about, bro?"

"Well, it's nothin', really,"  Justin replies as the two continue their job.  "I'm just worried about Pamela."

"Why?  What's wrong with Pamela?"

"In a word........her daddy."

"Cliff Barnes?"  Jimmy asks.  "What's that supposed to mean?  He causing trouble between you and Pamela?"

"Not exactly,"  Justin replies.  "Cliff itn't too happy about me and Pamela gettin' married."

"No surprise there."

"I know.  Cliff has threatened to boycott the weddin'.  Afton said she was gonna talk to him and try and convince him to come, but, Pamela's worried that he won't, and  if he doesn't show up, it's gonna hurt her.  A lot.  Despite everything, Pamela loves her daddy a whole lot.  And I know that in his own way, Cliff loves Pamela, too."

"If he loved her, you'd think he'd wanna be at his daughter's wedding,"  Jimmy says.

The two stop running to catch their breath.  "Cliff's whole reasoning is that he thinks I'm gonna hurt his daughter just like John Ross.  He can't get it through his head that I'm nothin' like my brother or my father."

"Well, from everything I know about Cliff Barnes, he never will get that through his head,"  says Jimmy.

Justin smiles.  "You're probably right.  I just hope doesn't try to do somethin' to stop the weddin'.  The way he looks at it, all us Ewings are the same..........low down scum of the Earth."

Jimmy laughs.  "Do you think that stupid feud between the Ewings and the Barnes is EVER gonna end?"

"Well, it's been goin' on over 80 years,"  Justin replies.  "I doubt the Ewings or the Barnes would know what to do if they weren't feudin' with one another.  But Pamela and I have decided that we're not gonna let this feud affect us.  But, in a way, it already is, because Pamela's worried that her father won't show up at the wedding, and I'm worried that if Cliff DOES show up, there might be trouble, given all the bad blood between him and our fam'ly.  So, it's kind of a no win situation."

"Look, maybe you're just overthinking this,"  says Jimmy.  "Y'know, I mean, if Cliff really loves his daughter and wants her to be happy, then he's not gonna show up and make a scene."

"I wouldn't be too sure,"  Justin says.  "Cliff has never been known for his tact."

Jimmy laughs.  "Well, if he does show up and makes a scene, then we'll deal with it.  In the meantime, don't borrow trouble.  Come on, let's finish our run before I have to get back to the office.  I'll race ya."

"And you'll lose,"  Justin says.  The two take off on their run again.

Ewing Oil....

In his office at Ewing Oil that afternoon, John Ross is dictating some notes to a tape recorder.  "And, set up a meetin' with the Cartel for one week from today to discuss a few new business ventures Ewing Oil would like to go in on with them.  Also, have Sly type up a letter of recommendation for George Petrie, who will be moving to Houston in a couple of weeks and will need that letter for employment there.  And, reminder to return phone calls from Jordan Lee III, Brandon Harwood, and Wes Miller by the end of the day on Friday."  Finishing up, John Ross switches off his tape recorder as a knock comes at his door.

"Come in,"  he says.

Sue Ellen walks into the office.  "John Ross?"

"Oh, hey, Mama, I thought you would've been gone to lunch by now."

"I had some work to finish up first, and I wanted to see if you wanted to join me for lunch.  I was going to ask you yesterday, but you had lunch with Krystina and my beautiful grandchildren."

"Lunch would be nice.  Just let me put a few things away here."

Sue Ellen smiles.  "Good. You certainly seem to be in a better mood than you were yesterday."

"Well, just been doin' a lot of thinkin' since yesterday, and to tell you the truth, I was feelin' kinda depressed."

"Depressed?  Why?"  Sue Ellen asks.

"My birthday comin' up this Saturday.  The big 4-0.  It just had me feelin'  a little down, that's all."

"But not anymore?"

"Nope.  Spendin' lunch yesterday with Krystina and my kids made me realize just how much I've got in life.  And how much I've got to look forward to."

"Well, I'm certainly happy to hear that.  And speaking of your birthday, Catlin and I were wondering if you and Krystina and the children would like to join us for dinner at our house on Saturday night?  You know, Justin and Pamela's wedding is that afternoon, and you could come over afterward.  Just an intimate little family celebration for your birthday."

John Ross sighs.  "That's right, Justin and Pamela are gettin' married Saturday, too.  Damn.  That's a hell of a birthday present.  My brother is marryin' my ex-wife.  For the second time."

"Not a little jealous are you?"

"Jealous?  Of what?  Justin and Pamela?  HELL no.  I put Pamela behind me a long, long time ago.  I've finally got the woman of my dreams in Krystina and the life I want, so I have got NO reason to be jealous of anyone.  If anything, I feel sorry for my little brother marryin' her."  John Ross stands to his feet.  "Alright, I guess we can go to lunch now."

"How do you feel about Perry's?"  Sue Ellen asks.

"My favorite restaurant,"  John Ross says as he and his mother leave the office.

As John Ross and Sue Ellen walk out of John Ross's office, they run into Alex, who is carrying a file with him.  "Oh, hey, guys."

"Hey, I thought you went to lunch,"  John Ross says.

"Not yet, I got a little behind on my work, so, I decided to stay and catch up.  You wanted these files organized."

"Well, I think that can wait,"  says Sue Ellen.  "Come on.  Join your father and me for lunch.  My treat."

Alex looks at John Ross.  "You sure it's okay?"

"Hell, yeah it's okay,"  John Ross replies.  "Come on. Put that file on Sly's desk, and let's go.  You can do that when we get back."

Alex smiles.  "Okay, awesome,"  he says.

Afton's Lounge....

Afton is talking on the phone to Cliff at her restaurant/lounge that afternoon when Pamela walks in.  "Cliff, your red tie is in the closet in your bedroom,"  Afton says as her daughter walks over to her.  "No, it's hanging with your other ties on the tie rack.  Yes, I'm SURE.  I put it there myself."  Afton listens for a moment as Cliff rants on the other end of the line.  Finally she sighs in frustration.  "Cliff, look, I'm busy.  I don't have time to come home and look for your tie.  If you can't find the red one, then......wear another one.  Cliff, I have to go.  Someone is here I have to talk to.  Just wear another tie, okay?  Bye."  Afton ends the call, puts her phone away, and shakes her head as Pamela laughs.

"What was that all about?"  Pamela asks.

"Your father is so exasperating,"  Afton replies.  "He's freaking out because he can't find that stupid red, Donald Trump tie he loves so much."

"So I gathered.  Why couldn't he just wear another one?"

"As well as you know your father, you have to ask that?  You know how he is.  Now do you see what I have to put up with?"

"Yes, yes, I do.  But, Mom, unless you WANTED to, you don't have to put up with Daddy.  You could always get your own apartment, you know.  After all, it's not like the two of you are married, or anything.  Or even dating.  So, you must enjoy putting up with him."

Afton looks at her daughter and smiles.  "Well, your father does have a certain........charm about him.  Besides, without me there, he'd be totally helpless.  You see he can't even keep track of his own clothes."

"But Daddy's always been that way.  He managed very well before you came back into his life, and he could again.  So, I'm guessing that YOU are the one who wants to stay there."

"Did you just come here to discuss your father and I, or was there some other reason you stopped by?"  Afton asks.

Pamela smiles.  "I was hoping that maybe my beautiful mother would treat me  to lunch."

"Your beautiful mother would love to."

"I also wanted to ask if you'd had a chance to speak to Daddy about the wedding yet."

"We talked a little about it last night.  And I think he might be coming around.  But darling, I think it would make a big difference if YOU were to ask him.  Or rather, BEG him.  You know he can't deny you anything,"  Afton says, gently stroking her daughter's hair.  "He's tried so hard to make up for all the pain he's caused you in the past."

"I know."

"What would you like to order for lunch?"  Afton asks.  "Anything in the house you want."

"Okay, then I'll have the smoked salmon."

"Smoked salmon sounds delicious.  I'm famished.  I haven't eaten since breakfast, and all I had then was a cereal bar.  I'll go place the order with the cook.  Be right back."

"Okay,"  Pamela says as her mother walks into the kitchen.

Perry's Steakhouse And Grille....

Sue Ellen, John Ross, and Alex are finishing their lunch at Perry's.  "Wow that was delicious,"  Alex says, rubbing his stomach.  "I'm stuffed."

"Me, too,"  John Ross agrees.

"Alex, before I forget, do you and Bridget have plans for Saturday night?"  Sue Ellen asks.

"Nah, not really.  We're just gonna hang out.  Why?"

"Well, if you don't have any plans, I'd very much like it if you and  Bridget would join us at my house Saturday night for dinner,"  Sue Ellen says.

"Sure, but why?  Some special occasion?"

"As a matter of fact, it is.  It's your father's 40th birthday, so, Catlin and I are planning a nice, intimate little dinner, with just the immediate family."

Alex looks at John Ross.  "40?  Wow, you're gettin' old."

"Yeah, gee, THANKS,"  John Ross says.  "You got a big mouth, you know that, son?"

"Whoa, a little sensitive, aren't we, Dad?  I was just saying, I mean, at 40 you're not exactly a spring chicken anymore."

"Yeah, well, I bet I can still take you on and beat your ass at basketball any day."

"You're on,"  Alex says.  "First chance we get."

"Deal."

Sue Ellen clears her throat.  "Well, if you two boys are finished, I think we should get back to the office.  I have a conference call with Bobby in half an hour."

"All set,"  John Ross says.

As the three get up from their table to leave, Shawn and Clay walk into Perry's.  They are greeted by the hostess and led to their table across the crowded restaurant, and on their way, they come face to face with John Ross, Sue Ellen, and Alex.

"Well, well, look who's here, the Ewings,"  Shawn says.

"Well, well, look who's here.......the President and Vice-President of the Dallas Loser's Club,"  says John Ross.

"As big an ass as ever, huh, John Ross?"  Clay asks.

"You're about to see who the losers and who the winners are in this town, John Ross,"  Shawn says.  "Now that Clay has joined me at Westar, we're gonna do big things.  Make Westar the power it was when my grandfather was CEO."

John Ross laughs.  "Well, you can keep on dreamin', Shawn.  But neither one of you has the experience or the brains to run a high school glee club, much less a big oil comp'ny, and it's only a matter of time before you run Westar into the ground.  Maybe even faster with him by your side than you would by yourself."

Alex looks at Clay.  "Seriously, Clay?  You went to work for THIS guy at Westar?"

"You darn right, he did, Alex,"  Shawn says.  "I offered you the job first, remember?  At least there's one Ewing who has some sense."

"Alex, I did what I had to do.  What I thought was best for ME," Clay says.

"Yeah, well, good luck with that one,"  says John Ross.  "And if you're gonna be workin' with this guy, you're gonna need all the luck you can get."

"We'll see about that when we take Ewing Oil down,"  Shawn says.

"I warned you before, Shawn,"  Alex says.  "If you want a war, then that's exactly what you're gonna get."

"I'm not afraid of a war, Alex.  But you Ewings should be.  After all, John Ross here taught me everything he knows.... ....how to stab someone in the back, how to be devious.  How to secretly spy on your enemies.  So don't be surprised if I use some of those methods to come after Ewing Oil."

"You'll try that at your own peril, you little punk,"  John Ross says.  "You say I taught you?  Well, I know quite a few tricks that I DIDN'T teach you."

"You come after us, and you'd better be ready to lose,"  says Alex.

"You're the ones who are gonna lose,"  Shawn says.  "And I hope you remember I offered you the chance to be on the winning side, but you threw that back in my face.  Dumbest move you ever made."

"You can kiss my......"

"John Ross, Alex, let's just get out of here, shall we?"  Sue Ellen says.

"Good idea,"  says John Ross.  "Another minute in the presence of these two and I'm liable to lose my lunch."  John Ross glares angrily at Clay and Shawn for a second, then walks away from them, followed by Alex.

Sue Ellen starts to walk away, but she pauses and looks at Clay.  "You know, I am REALLY disappointed in you.  As James's son, how could you have joined forces with your family's enemy?"

"Maybe I wouldn't have had to if my so called family hadn't treated ME like an enemy,"  Clay says.

Sue Ellen looks at him, and at Shawn, then she walks away from the two young men.

"Dude, did you see that?"  Shawn asks, his voiced laced with excitement.  "The Ewings are scared.  They know that we're gonna be a force to be reckoned with."

"Look, Shawn,"  says Clay.  "My problem is with John Ross, not Alex or Sue Ellen, or any of the other Ewings.  So if Westar does come up against Ewing Oil, John Ross is the only one I wanna see hurt."

"John Ross is the Ewing I have a problem with, too.  He's our common enemy, Clay.  But, if Alex or anyone else gets in the way, then they're gonna go down, too.  Sorry, but that's just the way it is, man.  Come on, let's get to our table."

Clay sighs, wondering if he had made the right decision in joining Shawn at Westar.

Braddock Elementary School....later....

As the last bell of the day rings at Braddock Elementary School late that afternoon, signaling the end of another school day, Michael comes out of his classroom with a stream of other kids, talking with his friend as they come out of the room and head down the hall.  The boys are talking about a new show on Netflix they both like.  "Yeah, I

binge watched the whole first season with my brother last weekend,"  the other boy says to Michael.

"I've watched like the first four episodes,"  Michael says.  "I'll probably watch the rest of the season this weekend, probably Sunday because I've gotta go to a stupid wedding on Saturday."

"A wedding?  Who's getting married?"  The other boy asks.

"My Dad's cousin, Justin."

"Well, I gotta go.  I'll see ya later, Michael."

"Bye, see ya tomorrow, Aiden,"  Michael says as his friend walks away from him.  Michael starts down the hall toward the front exit of the school when he sees Casey Myers walk out of the building ahead of him.  Michael pauses for a few seconds, unsure of whether he wanted to see Casey face to face.  After a moment, Michael proceeds down the hall and as he walks out the front of the building, he accidentally bumps into Casey, causing Casey to drop his books.  "Oh, Casey, man, I'm......I'm sorry."

"Why don't you watch where you're going?"  An angry Casey asks.

"Sorry.  Here, let me help,"  Michael says, bending down to help Casey pick up his books and his notebook, some of the loose pages of which had scattered on the ground.

"No, I got it,"  Casey says, proceeding to pick up his notes.

"No, it was my fault, so I'll help,"  says Michael.

"No, look, just leave me the hell alone!"  Casey snaps.

"I don't need your help.  And I sure don't need your pity."

"What are you talking about?"  Michael asks.

"I know you're just bein' nice to me because my Mom died.  I hear people talking behind my back.  'Poor Casey', they all say, even the teachers.  Well I don't need that, and I don't need somebody being nice to me just because they feel sorry for me, so just leave me alone!"  Struggling to hold back his tears, instead of picking up his books, Casey angrily kicks them down the front steps of the school, then turns and walks away.  Michael watches Casey as he walks over and takes a seat on a bench.  Despite the way Casey treated him in the past, Michael's heart goes out to the other boy.  After a few moments,

Michael picks up Casey's books and notes, and carries them over to him.

"Here are your books, man,"  Michael says, holding them out to him.

Casey looks at him, then takes the books from Michael.

"Casey, I really am sorry about your Mom."

"Yeah, thanks,"  Casey says.

"You wanna talk about it?"  Michael asks.  "I mean, if you want."

"Dude, why do you even care?"  Casey asks.  "Just go away, Ewing.  Go away and leave me alone."

Michael looks at him and nods.  "Okay, fine, then," he says.  After a brief pause, Michael walks away from him.  Michael only gets a few feet away from Casey when he hears Casey begin to cry.  Michael turns around and watches Casey as he buries  his face in his hands and cries.  Michael now sees Casey in a different light.  This sad boy was a totally different person from the mean bully who had pushed him around at school for so many months.  While Michael stands behind Casey and watches him, tears begin to fall down his own cheeks as he begins to think about how much he loves his own mother, and how terrible he would feel if anything ever happened to Heather.

Southfork....that evening....

Bobby pours himself a drink in the den at Southfork that night before dinner, then pours one for Ann and gives it to her.  "Thank you,"  Ann says with a smile.

"You are welcome, my dear,"  Bobby says, kissing her as Christopher and Courtney walk into the room.

"Well, don't you two ever get tired of that mushy stuff?"  Christopher jokes.

"As a matter of fact....no, we don't,"  replies Bobby.

"How's Jacob?"  Ann asks.

"He's fine.  He's hungry, which is a good sign,"  replies Courtney.

"I'm glad his appetite is back, but now he's gonna eat us out of house and home,"  says Christopher.  "Dad, I was thinkin' about something.  Now that Jacob is on the road to recovery, I think it's time I got back to work at Ewing Oil."

"You sure you're ready?"  Bobby asks.

"Yep, I'm definitely ready.  I've felt pretty uneasy leaving John Ross at the company unsupervised all this time."

"Well, I have to admit, I had my doubts at first, but John Ross seems to have been behaving himself recently,"  Bobby says.  "And I trust Sue Ellen to keep an eye on him.  I've been having regular conference calls with her via video chat from here at the ranch."

"John Ross has been behaving himself, but how long do you think that's gonna last?"  Courtney asks.

"Yeah, that's what worries me,"  Christopher says as John Ross and Krystina walk into the den.

"What worries you, Christopher?"  John Ross asks.  "Somehow, I get the feelin' that I was the topic of that conversation."

"Is that a guilty conscience talking, John Ross?"  Courtney asks.

"Of course not.  I have nothin' to feel guilty about."

"Maybe we should change the subject,"  says Krystina.

"I think that's a good idea,"  agrees Ann.  "We could talk about the weddin'."

Christopher smiles.  "Yeah, John Ross, how's it feel that your brother is marrying your ex-wife on your birthday?"

"My only concern about that is that Justin is bitin' off more'n he can chew with Pamela.  After all, Christopher, you and I have both had bad experiences with Pamela."

"As I recall, John Ross, Pamela was the one who had the bad experience when you cheated on her with Emma,"  Christopher says, immediately feeling bad for his poor choice of words when he sees the sad look on Ann's face upon the mention of her daughter's past indiscretions.  "Ann, I'm sorry, I......."

"Christopher, it's fine,"  Ann says.  "I know that Emma made more than her share of mistakes."

"Well, my main concern about this wedding is Cliff Barnes causing a scene,"  Bobby says.  "We all know how Cliff feels about us Ewings, and the fact that his daughter is marrying yet ANOTHER Ewing must be eating him up inside."

"Surely Cliff will behave himself at his daughter's wedding," says Krystina.

"I wouldn't bet money on that,"  Ann says.

"Yeah,"  says Christopher.  "You don't know my Uncle Cliff as well as we do."

Lucas walks into the room at that moment, looking dirty, sweaty, and tired from working on the ranch.  "Evening, everyone,"  he says.

"Well, evenin',"  says Ann.  "You look exhausted."

"I am.  Hungry, too."

"Hard day out playin' with the cows?"  John Ross asks.  Lucas ignores his cousin's remark.

"Dinner will be ready soon,"  Ann says.  "Probably twenty minutes or so."

"Okay, great, I just have time to go up and grab a quick shower.  Has anybody seen Heather?"

"She told me earlier she was going up to take a nap,"  replies Courtney.

"Okay, thanks,"  Lucas says.  He turns and heads up the stairs to his and Heather's room.

"You know, I'm kind of worried about Heather,"  Courtney says.

"Worried?  Why?"  Bobby asks.

"She seems so down, so depressed all the time these days."

"Yes, I've noticed it, too,"  says Ann.

"So have I,"  says Krystina.  "Heather really doesn't seem very happy about this pregnancy, and after she and Lucas have wanted another baby for so long."

"It's probably nothing,"  Christopher says.  "Probably just hormones."

Meanwhile....Lucas and Heather's bedroom....

Heather is laying on their bed crying as she holds a framed photo of Michael as a baby close to her chest, worrying about the problems she may be facing as her pregnancy advances.  When she hears Lucas coming, she quickly wipes her tears and places the photo back on the tables beside the bed as he walks into the room.  "Hey,"  Lucas cheerfully says.  "Boy am I tired.  We had to move two of the herds today, and fix part of a fence that had been damaged by that last storm."

"You must be starved,"  Heather says.

"I am.  Ann says dinner'll be ready in about twenty minutes, so I have to hop in the shower real fast."  Lucas takes off his soiled shirt and tosses it into a dirty clothes hamper in the corner of the bedroom.  "I would kiss you, but, I'm pretty dirty and sweaty."

"Well, you'll just owe me a big one when you come out of the shower,"  Heather says.

Lucas pauses at the bathroom door and looks at his wife.  "You've got it.  Be out in a few minutes."  Lucas winks at her, then goes into the bathroom.  As Heather hears Lucas turn on the shower water in the bathroom, she again

reaches over and picks up the photo of Michael when he was a baby and looks at it.  She begins to cry again.  "Dear God,"  she says softly.  "Please, let this baby be healthy, and let me be able to carry to full term without any problems.  Please.......for Lucas, and for Michael."

Sue Ellen and Catlin's home....

Meanwhile, Sue Ellen and Catlin are having Catlin's old friend, attorney Cass Winthrop, over for dinner that night. After finishing dinner, Cass leans back in his chair at the dining room table.  "Sue Ellen, that was a wonderful dinner,"  Cass says.  "My compliments to your cook."

Sue Ellen smiles.  "Thank you, Cass."

"Actually, Cass, Sue Ellen made the cake for desert."

"Really?  Well, it was absolutely delicious, as you could tell.  I did have three pieces."

"Thank you,"  says Sue Ellen.  "And credit for the main course of the dinner goes to our new maid, Hallie.  She's a wonderful cook."

"Yes, she is."

"Well, why don't we adjourn to the living room and have a drink?"  Catlin suggests.

"I'd love that,"  Cass says.

The three get up from the table and walk across the foyer into the living room as Hallie comes in from the kitchen and begins clearing the dinner dishes from  the table.  "Cass, I'm very glad that you could come over tonight,"  Sue Ellen says.  "I've heard a lot about you from Catlin."

"Well, thank you, Sue Ellen.  And I'm happy to meet the woman who's stolen Catlin's heart.  I understand that you were married to a Ewing before."

"Yes,"  Sue Ellen says.  "My first husband, J.R., was a second cousin of Catlin's."

"But I had never met this branch of the family until I came to Dallas a few years ago after learning of a piece of oil rich land a great-uncle of mine had cheated my grandfather out of here in Texas,"  says Catlin.  "So I came here to Dallas to inform my second cousin, Bobby Ewing, about the land that he was also entitled to a piece of."

"And Catlin and I met, and we eventually fell in love,"  Sue Ellen says.

"That's a very romantic story,"  Cass says.

"So what about you, Cass?"  Catlin asks.  "Last I heard you had married a girl named, umm.....Lila?"

"Yes, Lila Roberts,"  Cass replies.  "Lila and I have been divorced for almost five years now."

"Oh, I'm sorry to hear that.  You have any kids?"

"Yes, we have a son, Adam.  He's studying to be a lawyer just like his old man."

"That must make you very proud,"  says Sue Ellen.

"Oh, it does."

"Cass, you said the other day in my office that you were in Dallas conferring on a case when Donna Love called you and asked you to represent her in her purchase of Love International.  Mind if I ask what kind of case would bring you all the way to Dallas from Bay City?"  Catlin asks.

"No, I don't mind at all.  It's a murder case.  A very high profile murder case that I'm sure you're aware of."

"What case is that?"  Sue Ellen asks.

"I've been retained to represent Katherine Wentworth in her upcoming murder trial."

The smile quickly disappears from Sue Ellen's face and she and Catlin exchange looks.  "Katherine Wentworth?  You're here to represent.......Katherine WENTWORTH?"

"Yes, that's right."

"I don't believe this,"  Sue Ellen says.  "I just don't believe it."

"I understand your reaction, Sue Ellen,"  Cass says.  "I am aware of Miss Wentworth's history with Bobby Ewing, and her attack on Ann Ewing, as well.  I take it you know her well?"

"Oh, yes.  I know Katherine Wentworth.  In fact, I know her VERY well.  I could tell you stories about that evil woman that would straighten your curly hair.  The woman is psychotic.  She's dangerous, and I cannot believe that you would even consider representing ner.  Katherine Wentworth has caused my family no end of pain for decades."

"My client, just like any other defendant, is presumed innocent until proven guilty,"  says Cass.  "She's entitled to representation, and to a fair trial."

"But why do YOU have to be the one to represent her?"  Sue Ellen asks.  "You're supposed to be Catlin's friend!"

"Honey, just calm down,"  Catlin says.

"How can I calm down when your friend is about to go into court and defend the monster that tried to kill both Bobby AND Ann?"

"Catlin, I think I'd better go,"  Cass says, standing from his seat.

"Cass, you don't have to leave,"  Catlin tells his friend.

Cass looks at Sue Ellen, who gives him an angry expression.  "I think it's best.  Thank you for a lovely evening, and a delicious dinner.  And, Sue Ellen, I'm very sorry if I've made you uncomfortable.  I'll see myself out.  Catlin, goodnight."

"Goodnight, Cass,"  Catlin says as his friend quickly leaves.  After Cass is gone, Catlin turns to his wife.  "Sue Ellen......"

"Catlin, I'm sorry,"  she says.  "But you know how I feel about Katherine Wentworth, and about all the terrible things she's done to this family.  Cass seemed like such a nice man and an honest attorney.  I can't believe that he would even think of representing a murderer like her."

"Honey, he's a defense attorney, it's his job."

"Well, that doesn't make it any easier knowing that a friend of yours is representing that witch,"  Sue Ellen angrily says.

Catlin puts his arms around his wife and embraces her.

Justin's ranch....two days later....

On Saturday, members of the Ewing and Barnes families are gathered at Justin's ranch for the wedding of Justin and Pamela.  Present are Bobby, Ann, Christopher, Lucas, Heather, Michael, John Ross, Krystina, Alex, Bridget, Sue Ellen, Catlin, Jimmy, Ashley, Ray, Donna, Conner, Dylan, Lucy, and Cally on the Ewing side; and Afton, Mitch, his son Daniel, and Brad on the Barnes-Cooper side.  Before the wedding begins, everyone is standing around, socializing and having drinks.

As Bobby and Christopher are chatting with Sue Ellen and Catlin, Ray and Donna walk over to them.  "Hey, y'all,"  Ray says.

"Ray,"  Bobby says.  "Donna, you look lovely."

"Mmm, thank you,"  Donna says as Bobby kisses her on the cheek.

"Sue Ellen, Ann, you both look beautiful, too,"  says Ray.

"Thank you, Ray,"  Sue Ellen says with a smile.

"Christopher, where's Courtney?"  Donna asks.

"She stayed home with Jacob.  We figured the wedding might tire him out, so Courtney decided to stay home with him,"  Christopher replies.

"How's he doin'?"  Ray asks.

"Making great progress, actually.  He has to go back to the doctor in a few days, and we're hoping the doctor will clear him to go back to school."

Across the room, John Ross is pouring himself a drink when Lucy walks up to him.  "Well, John Ross, since I missed you at breakfast this morning, happy birthday,"  Lucy cheerfully says.

"Thank ya, Lucy,"  John Ross says, taking a sip of his bourbon.

"Wow.  I can't believe you're 40-years-old today.  I remember the day you were born.  Good Lord, do you know how old that makes me feel?"

John Ross looks at her and rolls his eyes.

Meanwhile, in one of the bedrooms, Afton and Ashley are helping Pamela get ready.  Afton looks at her daughter and smiles.  "Pamela, you are absolutely gorgeous,"  she says.

"Boy, you sure are,"  says Ashley.

"Thank you both.  And Ashley, thank YOU for agreeing to a bridesmaid."

"You don't have to thank me.  I'm honored that you asked me."

"Well, after all, you're gonna be my niece now, and I really want us to be close,"  Pamela says.

"I'd like that, too."

"Mom, what time is it?"

Afton looks at her watch.  "It's almost 3 o'clock."

Pamela sighs.  "I wonder if Daddy is here yet."

"Sweetheart, stop worrying,"  Afton says.  "Your father promised me that he would be here on time.  I told him that we should come together, but, since I had to get here early to help you, Cliff said that he'd just come later.  He didn't wanna spend anymore time with the Ewings than he had to."

"Is your father going to give you away, Pamela?"  Ashley asks.

"No, I'm afraid not.  He agreed to come to the wedding, but, he said that he couldn't bring himself to give me away at my wedding to J.R. Ewing's son.  So, Uncle Mitch is going to give me away.  I was going to ask Brad, but he despises the Ewings almost as much as my father does.  Oh, well, I'm just happy that my father is going to be here."

"I'll give him a call, just to make sure he's on his way,"  Afton says.

"Thanks, Mom."

Afton takes out her cell phone and dials Cliff's cell number.  The phone rings several times, with no answer.  When Cliff's voicemail answers, Afton leaves a message:  "Cliff, it's me again.  I hope you're on your way, because the wedding is set to begin in about ten minutes.  I'll see you when you get here."  Afton ends the call and puts her phone down.  "He didn't answer.  I'm sure he's on his way.  Probably driving here as we speak, if he hasn't already arrived."

A knock comes at the door.  "Come in,"  Pamela says.

Mitch walks into the room.  "Well, ladies," he says.  "Almost time to get started."

"Uncle Mitch has my father arrived yet?"  Pamela asks.

"No, he hasn't, but I'm sure he's on his way.  It's Saturday, and traffic coming out here was pretty insane."

Pamela lets out another deep sigh as she wonders if her father was going to make it in time for the ceremony.

Down the hall, Justin is tying his tie, as Jimmy looks on.  Once finished, Justin turns to Jimmy.  "How's this look?"

"A little crooked,"  Jimmy replies.  "Here, let me fix it."  Jimmy makes a few minor adjustments to the bow tie.  "Now, perfect.  You nervous?"

"Hell, yeah, I'm nervous. Thank God we're havin' a small weddin' with just our families here.  The way I'm feelin' right now I don't think I could handle a big weddin' with a hundred people."

"Oh, come on, you did it before, when you married........"  Jimmy suddenly stops talking.

"Hey,"  says Justin.  "Jimmy, we've talked about this before.  AMANDA.  You can say her name."

"Just brings back a lot of bad memories, that's all."

"Yeah, for you and me both, but, Amanda and all that stuff is in the past.  Pamela is my future."

Jimmy smiles.  "I'm glad to hear you say that."

"Now, when the hell am I gonna get the chance to be YOUR best man when you get married?"  Justin asks.

"I'm not sure that'll ever happen, man,"  Jimmy says.

Justin places his hand on Jimmy's shoulder.  "It will, bro.  Just give it time.  The right woman will come along for you one day.  I have faith it's gonna happen.  I want our kids to grow together."

A worried look comes over Jimmy's face as Justin mentions kids.  Even though for months he had tried to push the thought out of his mind, Jimmy can't help but remember Katelyn Spencer telling him that she had been pregnant with his child.  Could it be possible?  Jimmy wonders to himself.  Could he have a child out there somewhere?

"Well, it's time to get started,"  Justin says, looking at his watch.  "Ready, best man?"

"Yeah, all set,"  Jimmy replies.

A few minutes later....

As the wedding march plays and the guests are seated around the living room, Afton comes down the stairs as Pamela's maid of honor and takes her place at the front of the fireplace where the wedding is to take place.  Afton is followed by Ashley.  As Ashley marches down the isle, Dylan watches her, his love for this girl evident by the smile on his face.  Next, comes the beautiful bride on the arm of her Uncle Mitch.  Justin watches his bride, mesmerized by Pamela's beauty as she comes slowly toward him.  Both Pamela and Afton look over the crowd, but still no sign of Cliff.  Pamela's heart is filled with disappointment.  She and Mitch reach the front of the makeshift altar by the fireplace, where Mitch hands his niece over to Justin.

The minister steps forward and begins:  "Dearly beloved, we are gathered together in this place today in the presence of Almighty God to witness the joining together in holy matrimony of Justin Randall Ewing and Pamela Rebecca Cooper.  We are gathered to rejoice with them in the new life they now undertake together.  the relationship you enter into today must be grounded in the strength of your love and the power of your faith in each other. To make your relationship succeed it will take unending love. It will take trust, to know in your hearts that you truly want what is best for one another and to learn and grow together. It will take faith, to go forward together without knowing what the future holds.  Justin and Pamela join hands.  Do you, Justin, take Pamela to be your

lawfully wedded wife? From this day forward, to have and to hold, for better, for worse, for richer and for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, keeping yourself only unto her till death do you part?"

"I do,"  Justin replies.

"Do you, Pamela, take Justin to be your lawfully wedded husband? From this day forward, to have and to hold, for better, for worse, for richer and for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, keeping yourself only unto him till death do you part?"  The minister asks.

"I do,"  Pamela replies with a smile.

"Justin, please take the ring you have selected for Pamela . As you place it on her finger, repeat after me: 'With this ring, I thee wed.'"

Jimmy hands Justin the ring, and Justin places it on Pamela's finger.  "With this ring, I thee wed,"  he says.

"Pamela, please take the ring you have selected for Justin. As you place it on his finger, repeat after me: 'With this ring, I thee wed.'"

Pamela takes the ring and places it on Justin's finger.  "With this ring, I thee wed,"  she says.

"If anyone here sees just cause why these two should not be joined in holy matrimony, let them speak now or forever hold their peace,"  the minister says.

John Ross and Brad exchange looks across the isle, each of them waiting for the other to speak.

The minister continues:  "In so much as the two of you have consented together in holy wedlock, and have witnessed the same before God and this company, by authority vested in me by God and by the great State of Texas, I now pronounce you husband and wife.  Justin, you may kiss your bride!"

Smiling, Justin and Pamela draw closer until their lips meet in a passionate kiss.  Afton and Cally both smile with pride as they witness their children joined together in marriage.

"Ladies and gentlemen, I now give you Mr. and Mrs. Justin Ewing,"  the minister says.

A few minutes later....

As Justin and Pamela share the first dance in the middle of the living room to soft music, Afton walks into the kitchen and again dials Cliff's cell phone number.  As before, there is no answer.  Frustrated, she hangs up and sighs as Brad walks into the kitchen after her.

"Afton, WHERE is my father?"  Brad asks.  "I thought he was gonna be here.  He missed the whole ceremony."

"I know, and I'm really getting worried,"  Afton says.  "I've called his cell phone at least 5 times, and there's no answer.  It goes to voicemail."

"Knowing Cliff, he probably just decided to skip the wedding.  I would have myself if I hadn't promised Pamela I'd be here."

"No, I don't think that Cliff would do that,"  says Afton.  "He promised Pamela and he promised me he was going to be here.  Brad, I'm gonna go over to the apartment and check on him.  Something must be wrong.  I know he was complaining of a headache this morning, maybe he took some medicine and fell asleep."

"Alright, well, do you want me to go instead?"  Brad asks.

"No, I'll go.  You stay here, and don't say anything to Pamela.  I'll be back as soon as I can.  Hopefully with Cliff."  Afton walks out of the kitchen.

Brad sighs deeply, wondering where his father could be and why Cliff hasn't shown up.

Cliff and Afton's apartment....twenty-five minutes later....

Arriving outside of her and Cliff's apartment, Afton takes her keys from her purse and unlocks the apartment door.  "Cliff?"  She says, walking into the apartment.  Almost as soon as she walks in, she sees Cliff in his recliner, apparently asleep.  "Cliff, thank goodness," she says.  "We've been so worried about you.  Cliff, why didn't you come

to the wedding?"  Afton walks over to him.  "Cliff?"  She calls to him again, but Cliff remains still.  Afton looks at him, and her heart sinks.  "Cliff?"  She says, kneeling beside his chair.  "Cliff?"  She touches his face.  "Oh dear God!"  Afton gasps.  "Cliff........."  She begins to cry as she realizes the terrible truth.

Back at Justin's ranch....

As Brad is restlessly watching Justin and Pamela's wedding reception from a corner of the living room and sipping on a glass of scotch, his cell phone vibrates in his pocket.  He takes the phone out and looks at it, then quickly dashes into the kitchen to answer the call.  "Afton, did you find Cliff?"  Brad asks when he takes the call.  He listens to Afton on the other end of the line for a moment as Afton explains what she found when she returned to the apartment.  "What?  Afton, my God, what are you telling me?"  Again, Brad listens for a moment as Afton speaks.  "Oh my God.  Yes.  I'll.......I'll tell Pamela.  Afton, I'm coming over there."  As Brad puts his phone back into his pocket. Pamela and Justin walk into the kitchen.

"Brad, what's going on?"  Pamela asks.  "Where did my mother rush off to?  To find Daddy?  Was that her on the phone?"

"Yes,"  Brad replies.  "Pamela, that was Afton on the phone."

"Brad, what is it?  What's wrong?"  Asks a worried Pamela.

"Afton went back to the apartment to see if Cliff was still there."

"And?  Was he?"

"When Afton arrived, she found him in his recliner,"  Brad says, his voice shaky.

"What do you mean she found him in his recliner?  You mean, asleep?"

"No, Pamela.  He wasn't asleep,"  Brad replies.  "Pamela, I'm sorry.  Our father is gone."

"Gone?  He's......gone?  Daddy is dead? No...no........NOO!!!"  Pamela breaks down in uncontrollable tears as Justin puts his arms around her and embraces her as she cries....

RIP, Cliff Barnes, I will sure miss you. Dallas will never be the same without you, but you included his death into the script very well, John. I know that was not easy to do. The discussion on the phone about the red tie was hilarious and bitter sweet in the context, a lovely reminder of the laughter Cliff brought to the audience.

My heart broke for Afton when she found him and for Pamela. On her wedding day, too, but at least she has got the comfort that her father wanted to come to her wedding (which was lovely, by the way), even though it would have been hard for him. I can already see that his death will be really hard on Afton and Pamela, on Brad, too, he was devastated. They really have to lean on each other for support now and that might bring Brad and Afton closer together, Afton and Pamela even closer. I wonder if Afton will finally come to terms with her feelings for Cliff now, as a kind of closure. Everyone in her family always relies on her to be strong, but this time she might break down and need someone to lean on.

I know already that Cliff's funeral will make me cry. He could really be a pain sometimes, even vicious, but he also had a tragic life. So I am glad that John finally gave him a family to love at the end.

Clay is making the biggest mistake of his life to team up with Shawn. I really hate that little snake and I hope the Ewings will crush him. Then again his grandfather might get to him first. Not a good idea to provoke Wendell!

Thank you for the great chapter, John, a good mixture of happiness, tragedy and also comic relief. You did really well considering you had to react quickly to Ken Kercheval's death. I am looking forward to the next chapter.

@Verena........thank you, Verena, that means a lot to me. Those scenes were hard to write. I was almost finished with the episode last Monday when I heard the news of Ken's death, so I pretty much threw out the whole second half of the episode. It was originally going to center around John Ross's birthday, but then I wanted to rewrite it to incorporate the wedding, and scenes mentioning Cliff leading up to his passing. And I thought, with their long history, I thought it was only appropriate that Afton be the one to find him. The next episode, the funeral, will be very hard.

I think having Cliff die was probably the only thing that could have been done.Plus it could be interesting to see how certain characters react to Cliff's death because i'm sure there'll be mixed feelings. For example Bobby and Sue Ellen might have mixed feelings because whether they liked it or not Cliff was a big part of their lives for better or worse. Also Christopher might have mixed feelings too because Cliff was his last link to his mom. Also as certain characters remember Cliff maybe there'll be flashbacks. Also i'm wondering if Cliff's death could Afton, Pamela and Brad closer as a family. Also i could see some characters joking that JR and Cliff are now fighting in death like they did when they were alive.

@ John Walden Thank you for replying. You're welcome, you did a great job. Yes, I can imagine that writing Cliff's funeral will be even harder for you than me reading about it. Don't worry, you have a great love for these characters, you will do fine writing the scene.

Yes, I think that it was only fitting that Afton found him and I could really picture Audrey Landers pulling this scene of, from the initial shock to the final devastating realisation. I am sure Afton will realize that her only connections to Cliff that are left now are Pamela and the grandchildren. Possibly Brad...

@Verene I also think it was only fitting that it was Afton who found Cliff and maybe she even needed that moment to be with him to sort of say goodbye to him in her own private way because she nay need to focus on been there for Pamela and even Brad.I also wonder if maybe Cliff's death could make Afton a stronger character in a way because she may need to step up and be there for Pamela, Brad, her grandkids and maybe even Emma because she may know Cliff would want her to.

Since we've discussed bringing Fenton Washburn back before, I think Cliff's funeral would be the perfect opportunity to do so now. I also just realised that Carter Mckay died in episode 100 and now Cliff Barnes in episode 200, 2 ewing adversaries 100 episodes apart, pretty crazy, cliffs death also comes 25 episodes after his former son in law and another ewing rival Tripp Mckay

Wow, Trevor, those are some bizarre coincidences. I didn't even realize that and certainly didn't plan it that way, but it's crazy how it worked.

Great work again John. I felt so bad when Cliff died (Ken K.) in real life and now again in the episode. Wow 2 funerals and now another one. Sad times in Dallas. Clay and Shawn will be interesting to watch against the Ewings. I am glad that Pamela and Justin are finally married though.

    Parker Bena (Tuesday, 30 April 2019 15:36)

@John Walden It was kind of fitting that Afton found him. This is the second time she found at or near death. When I was reading the episode, I was thinking, "Wow! She found him when he had attempted suicide after his mother had fired him.

    Andrew Hass (Tuesday, 30 April 2019 16:44)

@John Walden I sort of find it fitting that Cliff died in episode 200 since it's a milestone episode.Plus just like Carter and Tripp's deaths set in motion a lot of things i'm wondering if maybe Cliff's death will set in motion a lot of things too. That way his legacy lives on

Just a thought, since Cliff helped Emma run away with the baby. Is it possible Cliff was still sending her money so she could stay hidden? Because Emma might have to come out of hiding if her financial support is cut off.

  • #22

Andrew Hass (Wednesday, 01 May 2019)

@Rose Meisenhelder I'm wondering if Lucas and others might use Cliff's death as a way to get Emma to come out of hiding. However i could see Lucas and others feeling a little bad about using Cliff's death that way but they may figured it's the only way to find Emma.

  • #23

    Verena (Wednesday, 01 May 2019 10:44)

@ Rose Meisenhelder I could even see Afton helping out Emma secretly in some way (perhaps financially), because she might feel she owes it to Cliff. That, of course, could bring her in conflict with the law and the Ewings.

    Verena (Wednesday, 01 May 2019 10:49)

I wonder if Cliff gets a chance to express how he felt about Afton and his family, after death so to speak,, perhaps in the form of a letter that he left to be read in case of his death. That might comfort his morning family a little, because he was taken from them so abruptly. Cliff was a lawyer. I could picture him doing something like that.

Feuds and drama are what "Dallas" is all about. The Barnes-Ewing feud may be over, but there is still the matter of Clay Beaumont and that little piece of shit Shawn Smith at Westar. Is Clay having an attack of conscience? Doesn't matter because, if Jeremy Wendell has his way, neither Shawn nor Clay may be at Westar much longer. I've also noticed that John is taking Pamela and Justin in the same "Romeo and Juliet" direction that the original writers had intended to take Bobby and Pam.

Maybe while they're in Heaven, J.R. will pull Cliff's cloud out from under him or put a whoopie cushion in it. :D

  • #28

    Andrew Hass (Thursday, 02 May 2019 09:20)

@Verena I could also see Cliff making sure all his affairs were in order just in case something ever happened to him and even wrote letters to people he cared about.Plus it could be interesting to see if he even wrote a letter to Christopher in trying to make amends with him in a way.
@Parker Bena, Regarding Clay, i don't think he would do anything that would hurt innocent people.Clay might be okay with going after John Ross and Ewing Oil but he may draw a line about going after others in the Ewing family that he has no issue with.

  • #29

    Parker Bena (Thursday, 02 May 2019 11:27)

@Andrew Hass, Clay is playing a dangerous game. He made his bed. Now he has to sleep in it. His ass is going down. The Ewings will win the battle with Westar hands down. Shawn and Clay are a couple of snot-nosed little shits who have NO business whatsoever being in the oil business. Another thing. John Ross NEEDS to get his ass out of that Colbyco deal.....NOW! If you think Ewing Oil is going to make money on that Colbyco deal, then you are kidding yourself. I've said it once, I'll say it again a thousand times. Alexis is behind it and she's using it as a way to take down the daughter of her mortal enemy.

  • #30

    Parker Bena (Thursday, 02 May 2019 11:29)

Neither Clay NOR Shawn is going to get John Ross OR Ewing Oil. If that's what they think, then they're going to end up sleeping on Skid Row with a bottle of bourbon for a pillow.

  • #31

    Andrew Hass (Thursday, 02 May 2019 12:26)

@Parker Bena If it's obvious from the start that Clay and Shawn are going to fail in their battle against the Ewings and Ewing Oil there's no drama. So even if Shawn and Clay fail in the end maybe they should at least have some wins even if it's small wins to sort of build them up until they fall.Plus just like JR set up Cliff in the past in making it look like he was going to have success only to pull the rug out from under from him maybe John Ross could do the same thing with Clay and Shawn and set them up.I also agree that John Ross should get out of that ColbyCo deal one way or another but it might be too late fro him to keep Bobby and Sue Ellen from finding out about the deal because Adam or Alexis might just be waiting to tell Bobby and Sue Ellen what John Ross did behind their backs. That way even if the deal between Ewing Oil and ColbyCo doesn't happen Alexis and Adam could still hurt John Ross.So if i was John Ross i would tell Bobby and Sue Ellen before they find out some other way.

Everyone's saying Shawn and clay are gonna get destroyed by the ewings I don't think that is a certainty first of all John Ross taught Shawn a lot of dirty tricks okay not everything second clay is JR'S grandson has JR'S blood in his veins so he would be a very cunning cunning ruthless man if he needed I think much like Justin if he is 3rd weststar is a much more powerful oil company than ewing oil which Bobby and sue Ellen have a huge say how it's run John Ross could be kicked out anytime and let's not forget Wendell is pulling the strings he is a cold hearted ruthless business man who took ewing oil down once before and beat JR a couple of times might not be the walk in park for the ewings that everyone thinks

Another excellent episode, John! Cliff was there from the beginning to the end. I didn't like the direction of his character in the TNT version. Cliff would not have blown that rig with Pamela on it resulting in the loss of life.

I agree with another poster, I hope there will be some communication Cliff left to those he loved. Heck, I wouldn't be surprised if he secretly owned a small group on Chinese restaurants locally!

Yes, John Ross needs to come clean with his partners about the ColbyCo deal asap. It could be the last straw if Bobby and Sue Ellen find out about it from another source.

It was a very awkward scene for Sue Ellen to find out their friend was representing Katherine. Where will this storyline go? Can't wait for the next episode.

    Keep up the great work.

  • #35

    Parker Bena (Sunday, 05 May 2019 10:42)

@Will I hope Catlin's friend gets so frustrated with Katherine, he just throws hands up in frustration and quits. @Andrew I can see John Ross saying to Shawn and/or Clay some of the same things J.R. said to Cliff. Something like - "You needed some slappin' down, bitch!" I'm wondering if some of John Ross' tricks are going to drive Shawn and/or Clay to suicide the way J.R.'s tricks did to Cliff. The fact that Shawn slept with Pamela could be a VERY powerful piece of ammunition that John Ross could use against him. As for the Colbyco deal, I hope that the other source Bobby and Sue Ellen find out from is NOT Alexis or Adam. I think it would be funny of Cliff ended up owning a chain of Chinese restaurants, it would be in keeping with one of the biggest running gags of the original series. @John Walden I think you ought to use some flashbacks of some J.R.'s greatest set ups of Cliff.

    Verena (Sunday, 05 May 2019 14:35)

I wonder if Cliff's death will affect Afton's character in the way that she will develop even more into a matriarch of the Barnes-Cooper clan than she has already done in the last couple of years. She will definitely become more protective. That could also cause strong conflict with the Ewings - if not in the sense of the traditional feud, but differently. She might also have her hands full keeping Brad in check, who might be more willing to reignite the Barnes-Ewing feud than we realize, perhaps even looking for allies in people we highly dislike like the snake Shawn.

  • #37

    Parker Bena (Sunday, 05 May 2019 21:32)

@Timmy You're dreaming. Shawn and Clay are inexperienced and they are playing an adult's game. Their inexperience will be their downfall. They're going to get their asses kicked.

  • #38

    Andrew Hass (Monday, 06 May 2019 04:59)

@Verena I also wonder if Cliff's death might force Afton to sort of step up and become the head of the Barnes-Cooper clan.I also wonder if Afton tries to be there for Brad more than Pamela because she'll know Pamela will have Justin while Brad may not have anyone to talk to.Plus Afton trying to be there for Brad could create conflict between her and Merilee because i'm sure Merilee won't like anyone trying to usurp her place in Brad's life.
@Parker Bena Right now Clay and Shawn are sort of allies but that might always be the case especially if one of them sees a chance to better his own position by betraying the other one.Plus as you point out Clay and Shawn are inexperienced which could be the downfall but at the same time if the Ewings become overconfident and don't really consider Clay or Shawn much of a threat that could be their downfall.Plus if the Ewings become too focused on Clay and Shawn they may not see another threat coming at them.

Wow! Looks like I missed a lot LOL! A lot of Cliff Barnes comments and I have to say that even though Cliff always kept getting beat, he always went down fighting. And he never gives up. The JR/Cliff Barnes battles were always classic, but John Ross and Cliff Barnes battles have been classic too, and John Ross has gotten Barnes at least 2 or 3 times that I know of. JR set up Barnes too many times and I will never forget the time that JR called Barnes the perfect failure! John Ross did it too when he pulled the rug right from under Barnes when he snuck millions and millions of dollars into two Westar deals. And lost both of them. Cliff Barnes, Pamela, and Tripp McKay all ended up fired from their jobs. That was the one reason Barnes kept losing because he let his arrogrance get the best of him.

    Derek Mathews (Monday, 06 May 2019 19:48)

I could definitely see Afton taking the charge and leading the family more now that Cliff is dead. But i like Afton a lot, and everything. She might be an amazing matriarch at the end of the everything. She definitely could have her hands full though and everything with Brad because she doesn’t really know him well. And what about Emma? She doesn’t know her dad is dead at the end of the day. And that’s really going to have an affect on everybody. Marliee doesn’t know Cliff is dead either. Why do I get the feeling that Marliee and Afton are definitely going to get into it because Marliee is so overprotective of her son. And Brad needs to get his life together because right now he looks lost. Pamela and Justin being married is really great, but Pamela is going to have to tell him what happened between her and Shawn and how he got her children’s shares and Tracey McKays shares. I definitely could see John Ross using Shawn sleeping with Pamela to get those shares against him. Like I said, Shawn and Clay are inexperienced people playing an adult game. The Ewings been fighting these battles for decades. John Ross, Bobby, Christopher, and Sue Ellen been doing this years. Seriously you punks come after Ewing Oil, you are dead meat. Because that’s not happening.

  • #41

    Parker Bena (Tuesday, 07 May 2019 11:20)

@Andrew Hass Dream on! Like Derek Matthews said, the Ewings have been doing this for a long time. They're way too experienced to just drop their guard. They'll just come at them with everything but the kitchen sink. Should John Ross use the information that Shawn was sleeping with Pamela, then they're screwed.

  • #42

    Andrew Hass (Tuesday, 07 May 2019 11:29)

@Derek Matthews I agree that Cliff's death is going to have an effect on everybody because in one way or another and for better or worse he was connected to most of the other characters. For example i could see Bobby pondering mortality when he learns about Cliff's death. Also i'm wondering if Christopher after the situation with Jacob and when he learns about Cliff starts realizing life is short and starts thinking if working at Ewing Oil and all the business fights is really what he wants to do with his life.I'm not saying that Christopher will stop working at Ewing Oil but he could decide to leave work at the office and not have it interfere with his personal/family life.I also agree that Pamela needs to tell Justin about what happened between her and Shawn because otherwise it might always be hanging over her and stopping her from been truly happy with her kids and Justin.Plus who is to say Shawn won't try to blackmail her again down the line?

  • #43

    Andrew Hass (Tuesday, 07 May 2019 16:29)

@Parker Bena I'm sure the Ewings won't let their guard down where Shawn and Clay are concerned but that doesn't mean they won't become overconfident because they may not see Clay or Sean as much of a threat.Plus when Bobby and Sue Ellen find out that John Ross made a deal with ColbyCo behind their backs that could create tension which Clay and Shawn could take advantage of in some way.I think the Ewings are unbeatable when they are united but when they're not united it could be a different case then.Plus even though i'm sure Clay and Shawn won't win in the end they could have some wins in their war against the Ewings because even if Cliff had some wins against JR even if they were short-lived wins.

  • #44

    Parker Bena (Tuesday, 07 May 2019 19:38)

@Andrew Hass To paraphrase J.R. - "You need slappin' down, Shawn and Clay. Now why don't you both do the honorable thing and get in the elevator and go to the roof and jump off?"
